So the last round in the first stage of the Tournament brings us Vulkan vs Yarrick.
Here we have two guys with almost the same points cost each, Vulkan He’stan and Commisar Yarrick. So what do they bring to the arena, well Vulkan is usually taken for his salamander’s ability to make all heat weapons twin linked, unfortunately that wont help him here. Besides that he has a master crafted spear and defensively 2+/3++ which aint bad.
Yarrick on the other hand seems better in combat, preferred enemy the turn he charges, Eternal warrior and a very nice 3+ we will be back necron style get back up roll, finally he can make all wounds against him be re-rolled instead of a inv save.
Vulkan vs Yarrick 40k Character Battle round 7
Vulkan Charge
Vulkan starts with a bolt pistol shot and then 4 attacks on the charge at s6. Shooting he hits but does not wound, in combat he rolls 4 hits and 3 wounds, after forcing a re-roll of those he ends up with 2 wounds which yarrick then takes leaving him on 2 wounds. Striking back Yarrick has 3 attacks, he hits with 2 and wounds once taking one wound from Vulkan after a failed save. Yarrick then passes his morale test.
Next round Vulkan hits 3 times and wounds 3 times even with Yarrick’s reroll, essentially killing him, he performs he’s WBB roll and passes, staggering back to his feet for the next round with 1 wound. Vulkan goes again, 3 more hits, 2 more wounds after re-rolls, Yarrick is down again but again staggers to his feet for another round of beatings he cant seem to hit back from. Into another round of beatings however this time Vulkan misses with all his hits, Yarrick gets to hit back scores 2 hits, 1 wound and the save is failed taking Vulkan down to 2 wounds. He then passes his morale test.
Onto the next round 3 hits and 2 wounds for Vulkan, he’s down again this time will it be for good? Yep on a 1 Yarrick is no more.
Yarrick’s Charge.
In shooting, Yarrick hits twice, wounds twice and Vulkan fails a save taking him to 3 wounds, onto combat Vulkan hits and wounds twice, taking Yarrick down to 2 wounds, Yarrick hits and wounds 3 times, Vulkan fails 1 save putting him on 2. Yarrick passes his morale test. Vulkan then hits twice and wounds once putting Yarrick on 1 wound, he hits back getting 2 hits and 2 wounds, 1 is saved putting them both now on 1 wound each and tying combat.
Next round, 3 hits for Vulkan and 2 wounds scored after re-rolls putting Yarrick down again, up he gets though. Vulkan clearly sigh’s as he smacks him again, 3 more hits 2 more wounds. Yarrick gets back up, AGAIN. Another round see’s 3 more hits and wounds Yarrick gets back up yet again, how many spear’s to the face can this guy take? Well for the sake of your sanity the answer is 3, this went on for 3 more rounds before Yarrick failed his WBB roll and finally died, every single round Vulkan got enough hits and wounds to keep putting him down.
So a very 1 sided battle, that only really dragged on as long as it did due to Yarrick’s special ability which I bet is pretty damn annoying to play against in a real game. Never used him personally as I think even though he is good he’s not quite worth his points cost. Vulkan on the other hand you can see why he gets picked so often, even though its mostly for his re-rolls ability, as a character on his own he’s pretty decent, it will be interesting to see however how he does against things with s8 or instant death abilities.
We now have an end to this first round and can see the final bracket for the next phase –
Straken | vs | Kharne |
Eldrad | vs | Sicarius |

In this phase due to there being an odd number of challengers, I will be putting them all against each other in a mini league to give them more of a fair chance to rise to the top, so following the above we will see –

3 points for a win, 1 fight each where they both get the charge, if you spot any glaring errors in this please feel free to let me know, given its my first tournament that i have already partially messed up the format of due to not forcing set contestant sizes of 8 or 16 characters!
