Well they say when you're on a roll you're on a roll and right off the back of my completed Lhamhean comes my next painting project complete, my first venom.

It may come as no surprise to you but 40k or fantasy are pretty much both games for geeks. Yes shock horror it's true, you may not consider yourself one, but I promise you, other people do and in some cases not only geeks but full on nerds. So Last night I came to wonder and question exactly why the genre we know and love is treated with such disdain by so many people.

In a recent game I tried something never before given the time of day, a terminator squad inside a storm raven accompanied by a terminator librarian for support. After performing incredibly well I have decided he deserves a model of his own and well here it is.

Enter the Dark Covern! After 5 boxes, 1 return due to poorly casted miniatures (seriously I didn’t take pictures but one miniature had no backpack thing and one was completely missing an arm) I have finally finished getting together the core of my wrack/haemo list.

So my FLGS usually gets new releases in a couple of days early, as such I popped in today and picked up a haemonculus and some wracks. Now the wracks being in a box set is always a risk, especially with all the stories of miscasts, but I figured I would give them a chance.

So this weekend gone was the first ever blog wars tournament held at Maestrom games in Mansfield, hosted by Alex from fromthefang. Though I didn’t enter it was clearly a very well run tournament, one which being in a minority of only a few spectators (coule of lads plus some WAG's) I was able to enjoy many of the games without the stress of playing myself!

The first I heard about finecast was recently on bols just before the GW announcement, I have to say it was a fairly well kept secret from GW in the grand scheme of things and considering how badly they seem to be able to keep the secret of the rest of their products.

Some people like it, some don’t and some don’t give a damn either way. Marines vs Marines, we all have to agree that with so many flavours out there and how good each flavour is, they do dominate the game quite a lot.

This post is titled, why deep strike is the only rule I would change in 40k 5th ed. It will be essentially a rant, a very long rant, please bear that in mind while reading, thanks. 40k is a fun game, it was fun when I played it back when I was 10 years old and it had rulebooks just for wargear and its fun now.

Well its been a while, I got my first warriors when the Dark Eldar were first released but I have finally got around to painting one. Mainly to try out a different paint scheme than I'm used to in practice for my Blood Angels librarian but I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, especially considering how terrible the wyche was.

They say variety is the spice of life, well I have to say I'm pretty damn bored of painting standard marines. It was a good run, got a fair few done however I need a break and as such its time to paint my first ever Blood Angels tank my Land raider crusader with Forgeworld doors.

With the release of the GK coded on the horizon it was requested that our character battle champion the Sanguinor takes on a few more of the grey knight’s big nasties. With him having already slaughtered the best of their HQ, the only thing left really are the various ultra cheese units available, Dread Knight was asked for so here it is.
Tuesday, 22 March 2011
So I recently got my hands on a copy of the Grey Knights codex and after I finished whimpering in a corner about the sheer cheesy beardy bentness of it all I decided to put our champion the Sanguinor up against the Grey Knights big expensive Lord, Kaldor Draigo.

First of all apologies for the long time since my last post, life and work have been a bit hectic and not much painting has got done lately, however as I have had some free time today, here is my first attempt at a Thunder hammer + Storm Shield Terminator.

I never had the biggest Chaos Daemons army. Only 20 or so blood letters and the same number of plaguebearers, 6 flamers and some pink horrors plus daemonettes thrown in. Combined with the daemon princes of my chaos space marines army and a great unclean one/blood thirster I got off ebay, it spend most games with counts as units standing in as fiends and such that I could never be bothered to buy.....

So this is the step by step process of how I paint my marines, featuring bob, the flamer assault marine. The process took a few hours and is of course by no means anything more than glorified tabletop quality but I like to think looks decent enough even though its not quite as good as most of the other models I have done recently, I hope im not getting worse, probably just lazy.

So they are finally here on advance order and look fantastic as expected, I can see games workshop selling a fair few of these models just to be painted, converted and kitbashed nevermind for thier ultra cheesy new codex which will sell them in truck loads. Pictures after the jump!

Basic Tutorial here for you, how to magnetise your Blood Angel assault squads so that they can be both jump infantry and swoop down in some DOA action as well as ride around in those razorbacks the interwebs love so much, without having to create different models for each job. In addition to this they are much easier to paint without their packs on.
Monday, 7 March 2011
Recent I have started including Missile Devastator's in my BA DOA list, as a rear support firebase. They have done fairly well most of the time too either drawing fire away from the troops that fly in later or just nuking the hell out of things, sure sometimes they die but for their bargain price they have made it into my list to the point where the deserve to be painted.

Well, it has been a fun journey but with this post we come to the end of the 40k Project Character Battle. Today’s final elite matches that will feature The Nightbringer vs The Sanguinor and Abbadon vs The Swarmlord will see a champion finally named out of the 220+ points bracket, joining Eldrad in ultimate glory!
Tuesday, 1 March 2011
Today’s penultimate games first of all feature The Nightbringer vs the Swarmlord. Neither one of these combatants mess around and there is a fair chance the Swarmlord may well instant death kill the Nightbringer if he gets a wound through.

He’s big, he’s green and he’s very annoyed. Seems I may have slightly dicked over our friendly neighbourhood warboss. In a recent knockout fight I did not give him his waaagh save in the turn he was charged, as such I feel compelled to give him another shot at the cherry. If he can beat Calgar in a 1v1 over 1 round I will allow him back into the league and play all his matches now for you lucky people.

Day 3 of this week’s final Elite League Character Battle and the first of today’s games is the Nightbringer vs Calgar. Calgar in general with his power fists can hurt the Nightbringer but lets face it, if he wins this fight with the c’tan busting through his inv save it will be a miracle. Abbadon managed to bring him down with sheer weight of attacks but with only 4 as standard I fear it’s not enough.
Tuesday, 22 February 2011
Today’s first game we have Marine Favourite Calgar vs Nid big bug the Swarmlord. No points for either yet (though swarmy hasn’t fought yet) so both are looking for their first scores on the board.

Bit of a hobby post for ya, like many others I invested in a Stormraven this month. And like those many others I personally wasn’t keen on the turret/air intake at the top but thought what the hell and went with it anyway. So here I am with my half painted Stormraven wondering just how I’m going to transport it / keep it nice and safe, after all they certainly aren’t cheap.
So it’s Monday and half term here in the UK which means GW’s around the country are full of kids (so avoid) and the morning commute to work is fantastic and clear. The result of this is me in an incredibly good mood right in time for today’s first elite final league matches.
Friday, 18 February 2011
Onto the final Battle before the group stage and it's a big one, Tyranid uber monster the Swarmlord vs Blood Angels Librarian Mephiston. This fight in my opinion is essentially a race against time for Mephiston to beat the Swarmlord down with his force weapon before he gets a large portion of instant death himself. So this really comes down to psychic tests and the incredibly overpowered and cheesy shadow in the warp.

So Today we have for you the leader of the Ultramarines vs the Leader of the Orks, a true 'Games Workshop' Poster boys fight, good vs evil, blue vs green. A battle of these armies is played out on many a GW store board across the world on a daily bases, many people starting with one of these two armies. The leaders of which we don't see very often, so here they are, lets see once and for all who is the best.
