40k Character Battle Grand Final

Well, it has been a fun journey but with this post we come to the end of the 40k Project Character Battle.  Today’s final elite matches that will feature The Nightbringer vs The Sanguinor and Abbadon vs The Swarmlord will see a champion finally named out of the 220+ points bracket, joining Eldrad in ultimate glory!

So to being then The Nightbringer vs The Sanguinor!

Nightbringer lascannon thing misses and we go into combat.  Sanguinor hits 7 times (with +2 attacks from the winged charge) and wounds 4 times with re-rolls.  2 saves are failed and 2 pass, it’s a decent a alpha strike but will it be enough.  Nightbringer hits twice and wounds twice, leaving the Sanguinor on 1 wound.  Tie combat.

Onto the next round then and Sanguinor this time hits 5 times and wounds twice, but they are both saved.  The Nightbringer now with a very good chance of ending the Sanguinor’s winning streak hits and wounds twice, ending the Blood Angels lord.

So grinding out a win here wasn’t possible for the Sanguinor, as powerful as he is the loss of his inv save and not being strong enough to really wound the Nightbringer properly told in the end.

Our Final battle is between Abbadon and The Swarmlord.

Abbadon’s shooting hits and wounds once but it is saved.  Swarmlord cast his usual leech (which does nothing) then Paroxysm putting Abbadon at ws1.  They go into combat, Abbadon rolls 5 for his daemon weapon and then scores 5 hits total, these become 5 wounds also, 3 are saved leaving swarmy on 3 wounds.  Swarmy hits back with 5 hits then 3 wounds, after re-rolling the successful saves there is still 1 fail leaving Abbadon also on 3 wounds.

Next round then Abbadon rolling a daemon 2 this time, giving him a total of 4 hits which become 4 wounds, some bad saves later however and with 3 fails swarmy dies, however can he kill Abbadon before he goes down.  He hits 4 times but only wounds twice with some badly timed snake eyes, saves are failed but Abbadon finishes on 1 wound.  This one is over then with Abbadon’s mass of attacks beating down the Swarmlord over 2 rounds.

So with those games over, the league table looks like this –

Meaning we have a tie at the top for our winner between the Sanguinor and Abbadon, technically as I said last time the Sanguinor should be the overall winner as he beat Abbadon in the heats beforehand, though as this is for title of grand champion I am going to run them against each other for one final glorious battle to the death.  The ultimate might of chaos vs Matt Ward’s finest cheesy golden nippled ninja.

Grand Final

Abbadon vs The Sanguinor

Abbadon’s shooting hits and wounds but it saved so we go into combat.

Sanguinor hits 6 times after re-rolls.
He wounds 6 times after re-rolls.

Abbadon fails 4 saves and is defeated; The Sanguinor therefore is our grand champion afterall winning smoothly with the help of Initiative 7 and re-rolls.

Azkaellon in all his glory

I have learned a lot doing these battles and enjoyed them very much as I hope you all have as well, this wont be the end but they will take a break for a while till at least the Grey knights codex is released at which point I may do some further battles including their characters as well as the Dark eldar ones.  Should anyone have been missed out that you want to see next time around please do let me know as well as any comments you may have on the tournament as a whole or what you may like to see be done differently.

In addition I just want to thank all those that commented with advice and pointing out rules I missed as I went along as well as the owners of any images I used along the way such as the swarmlord from http://legiominimus.blogspot.com/.

  1. Do you work this out using mathshammer?

Also how does Abaddon wound 5 times? He needs 5+ to hit because he's WS1 I doubt he'd hit that much with 9 or 10 attacks which is 50%. Should hit with about 3.

Also isn't Sanguinor S4? If so how can he get full house of wounds?

  2. No its all with real dice so it was just luck based its not averages. The Sanguinor has re-roll to hits and wounds and he is s6 on the charge. Abbadon rolled 10 dice and needed 5's to hit which he got 5 of, is was just above average for sure but again, its real dice so anything can happen.
